A FREE 18+ LIVE MUSIC EVENT AT VIC ON THE PARK THIS JUNE LONG WEEKEND

VIC ON THE PARK, MARRICKVILLE
FRIDAY, JUNE 11 – SUNDAY, JUNE 13

Jameson, The Music and Booze Company and Merivale today reveals their 3-day mega-festival celebrating music, Irish whiskey, and community spirit, Jameson House of Rounds returns to Marrickville’s Vic On The Park over the June long weekend, headlined by leading Australian artists The Murlocs, Kwame, CLYPSO, Hatchie, and more.

From Friday, June 11 through till Sunday, June 13, the free live music series goes back to its roots at Vic On The Park, a historic venue supporting local creatives and whiskey between mates. Friday’s proceedings will be led by Western Sydney rapper, Kwame. Kwame’s live reputation precedes him from sold-out performances across the nation, and with his recent single, “ONE” featuring Tasman Keith in tow, expect a stratospheric set. Joining him is high-energy local producer and songwriter, CLYPSO whose glitch and tropical-fused electro is a thrilling addition to the bill. A DJ set from renowned R&B and UK garage-loving artist, DJ and radio host LatifaTee will round out the night.

The following day on Saturday, June 12, Melbourne garage-rock kings The Murlocs seize the reins. Starring two members of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and with their newest album out in late June, The Murlocs’ set promises to be a dreamy cacophony of fuzzed-up rock. Joining the packed lineup is shoegaze queen Hatchie and Sydney’s favourite alt-country sweethearts Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys, whilst doo-wop punk rock crew Flight to Dubai and rising Sydney scuzz-pop crew Sweetie round out the Saturday alongside Sunscreen DJs, Third Eye Stimuli DJs, Queen Bee DJs and Joseph Liddy DJs. Expect all your favourite faces under the one roof for Jameson House of Rounds day two.

On Sunday, June 13, Jameson House of Rounds completes the three-day bonanza with a high-energy lineup, as Shantan Wantan Ichiban presents “Pineapple Republic” heads to the Vic On The Park. From triple j presenter to one of the country’s finest DJs, expect a day of fun-focused DJs and dancers to keep the long weekend mood high and lively, and the Jamo dry and limes flowing.

As always, Merivale and Jameson are taking care of the drinks with a curated list for guests to enjoy across the festival. Choose to kick off your stay with a ‘Pickle-Back’ shot (Jameson and pickle juice, garnished with dill and a mini pickle), a Whiskey Apple Slushy, or Jameson’s signature Dry + Lime. Grab your mates and make it a jug for $25. In line with Jameson and Merivale’s commitment to community spirit, $1 for every Jameson drink sold will be donated to Addison Road Community Centre Organisation. Addi Road is an independent not-for-profit supporting social justice, arts, and culture through managing a nine-acre heritage site for community use in the Inner West since 1976.

Don’t miss the mighty reunion of live music, whiskey, and mates at Marrickville’s Vic On The Park this June long weekend. A free series, Jameson House of Rounds promises some of the best talents Australia has to offer in the community-shaped heart of Sydney’s Inner West. Jameson will also be shouting a Jameson Dry + Lime and limited edition Jamo x Thrills caps for the first 100 punters through the door each day – don’t be late!

A Chat with Local Indie Pop Star Moody Beach

Melissah Mirage aka Moody Beach has more collabs than a Beyonce album. You’ll find her popping up in the latest F-Pos track, behind a forthcoming comic book, all over Poolroom’s EP and of course her own releases. Naturally her name popped up as we started pulling on the thread of Sydney’s ever connected music scene. We had chat to her about her forthcoming EP, working with Kim Moyes (The Presets) and collaborating with artists other than musicians.

You’ve got a new EP out soon. Tell us a bit about that. How was working with Kim Moyes?

I wrote the songs in lockdown, using my lunch breaks to record demos in between working 9-5. Key themes explored in the writing include sexism, misogyny, and corporate hegemony. These are all powerful forces that I wanted my EP to stand up to, so it was important I worked with a producer whose energy would drive the tracks. I’m a big fan of Kim’s work with DMA’s, Jack Ladder, and of course, The Presets, so I took a chance and reached out to him. We’re the only two instrumentalists on the EP; I perform bass, guitar, and vocals, and Kim plays drums and synths.

You want to work with a producer who has faith in you. I initially suggested session musicians play what I’d written, but Kim pushed me out of my comfort zone and insisted I perform. I’m glad I did. We had a lot of fun and the energy I had my heart set on is certainly there. Now I get to recreate that live.

Moody by @simoncecere

You’re pretty entrenched in the Sydney indie pop scene. Not only are you Moody Beach, but you also play in The Melodrones and have collabed with F-Pos & Poolroom. In addition to this you’ve jumped to the industry side and have started managing the smooth Ona Mota. Have we missed anything? Give us a run down of everything you’re musical involved in just incase!

That’s almost it! I’ve also co-written a comic that acknowledges how the Sydney live music scene has provided me with a platform to perform in a way that challenges prejudice. That will be released later this year.

Cale is another artist I work with frequently who is also in the Moody live show. I have a few more collaborations in the pipeline, but I’m sworn to secrecy…

It’s nice to see all this health collaboration between musicians & artist in the Sydney Scene. We chatted to to Evening Records last week and its a similar situation in the inner-west Alt-country scene. What would you credit all this collaboration and intertwining down to?

Fun, passion, love of art and each other. When I moved to Sydney from Adelaide a few years back, I formed many friendships by going to shows. Now, the majority of people I’d deem as family here are the people I play with. We have a shared goal, and that’s to keep the arts alive. I’d be lost without self-expression and feel so fortunate to be able to connect with others through music, which is why I am always keen to collaborate.

Moody to the left playing in The Melodrones @ The Vanguard by Tom Wilkinson

The video for your latest track ‘Chance’ has just dropped with some mesmerising visuals. The track features a drum sample from Total Control’s ‘Flesh War’. What other Australian/local bands have inspired you of late?

I’ll give myself a cap, as the list goes on. Top three right now would be SpookyLand, Amyl and the Sniffers, Lost Animal.

We are big fans of a Moody Beach live show. You’re playing this Saturday at The Vanguard. What can we expect? Who are you bringing along to support?

That’s a surprise. You’ll have to be there to see.

A Playlist of Moody’s many projects + a couple songs from her favourite acts right now!!

New Music for April 2021!!

Its never ceases to amaze me that there is so many amazing musicians in this big wide world of ours that are constantly making songs that we bloody love. Here’s just a taster of our favourite listens over the past month:

Betty – Sneak – In before a million!! Seriously though from what I can see only 180 of us have listened to this & to be honest I think I was at least 20 of those. This song is a big vibe, get on it… before and beyond a million listens!

betty · Sneak

For Those I Love – Birthday / The Pain – The Avalanches with a thick Irish accent. You might have seen this album doing the rounds, the whole things is great (so go listen) but this is my pick of the bunch.

Vegyn, Jeshi – I See You Sometimes – This songs just builds & builds & builds till i’m walking down the street absolutely raving by the end of it!

WIGZ – WWWWWHY – Brisbane can disco!!

KIAN – Sunbeam ~ Harvey Sutherland Remix – Summer is meant to be over but this song will be extending it all the way through winter & into next year!

Behind You – Burning – Head-bang central! For fans of DeathGrips. Go back and watch all their videos, its well worth it.

Green Screen – I Am Boring – Sydney supergroup (maybe im getting ahead of myself here) featuring our favourites The Buoys & Baby Beef!

Family Jordan – Big Grass (album) – Some beaut alt-country coming out of Byron. More alt-country less Influencers!!

Billy Davis – Paranoid (feat Jordan Dennis) – Awesome track, could easily compete international with any R&B/hip Hop track out currently. This is the classic Billy Davis i fell in love with when I listened to his first single “No Longer Lovers”.

Juno Disco – Dreamin’ – Underworld but make it Australian!

Juno Disco · Dreamin’

FEET – Peace & Quiet – Quiet you lot!! FEET you can keep making these beaut indie/rock tunes!

Mundo Primitivo – Paisaje Interior (Album) – Like a bat out of Hell! Local punk’s that sing in Spanish. Get around it!

Enjoy the tracks. If you want to stay up to date with our listening habits live, follow our Spotify playlist here!

The Rise & Rise of Evening Records

The Inner-West’s alt-country scene has exploded over recent years thanks to a rag-tag bunch of muso’s that are tangled up like like a horse’s tail in a sandstorm. We caught up with label head, Ross Tipper to try make sense of who plays in who’s band, how it all kicked off, and why we’re both sick of people saying that they’re excited gigs are back

What spurred on the launch of Evening Records and who was the first release?

The idea for ER was born out of a few very passionate conversations between myself and some of my best friends in bands in the Inner West. We all play music in each others bands, or go to each other’s shows every week, and are part of what I think is such an amazing scene of talented and committed people. We felt the best way to really get attention about what we are doing is to band together (no pun intended) under a banner of sorts, to really bring one focal point to our scene and drive it forward as one kind of engine.
The first release was from Jay Squire – former song writer/guitarist/singer of the great band Easy St. – the ‘Sub Rosa Vol.1 EP’, on April 8th 2020.

What labels/scenes/eras would you say ER takes inspiration from and how does that shape the labels movements.

I grew up idolising Drive-Thru Records from the US. I was a huge fan of a few of their bands, and through their label found other bands I grew to love. The idea of them all being in one place – maybe not based on location as such, but metaphorically at least – and therefore more easily accessible, is something I really want to showcase with Evening Records.

By bringing what I think is an amazing scene and group of friends I’ve had the pleasure of playing with/going to shows with over the last 6 or so years, I fell it’ll be easier for those outside the Inner West to decipher exactly what is happening here. It’s to shine a light on what everyone is doing, and together we make a much stronger statement – I think – than separately.

Ruben Neeson At The Vanguard
Ruben Neeson by Tom Wilkinson

It’s not hard to play 6 degrees of separation with the ER artists. There’s a lot of doubling up and busy schedules within the family and outside it. Can you help us untangle this web of collabs/cameos?

Untangling the Web

I think a healthy scene is supposed to be this tangled, or maybe it’s just inevitable after a while. It shows that not only do we support each other by going to gigs, but that we are actively helping each other write, record, book shows, publicise and inspire each other to keep going.
Choosing to work and live in the music industry – especially in Australia, and maybe even more so in Sydney – is a daunting task, but doing it together provides a backbone, a strong base for an existence that can be very trying at times.

Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys features live members of River Dreams, which also features members of Joe Liddy & The Skeleton Horse. Ruben Neeson plays pedal steel with Caitlin Harnett, and also has Ben James on drums who does amazing work with Cobra Club (CCXO), booking and promoting nights at various venues across the Inner West. Darby has collaborated and sings with Jay Squire, who sang in Easy St., alongside the wonderful Magic Nic. Iain T. McKelvey is an absolute workhorse in his own right, and has just put together a ripping band called The Midnight Tangos who play with him. I (Pan-Pacific Grand Prix) also play guitar in Lady Lyon, which features members of Baby Beef AND Caitlin Harnett’s band.

So there you go, full circle!

Lady Lyon by Four Minutes to Midnight

Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys played at the Enmore Theatre recently. How’d that gig go down?

To see your best mates play that stage, was so beautiful. Caitlin & The Pony Boys played, as well as Andy Golledge, who I will say can from here on in be known as the forefather or perhaps Mayor of our Inner West alt. Country expedition.

To see them shine on such a huge stage alongside some HUGE acts – Tim Freedman, Choirboys, Ian Moss , and some more – was really, bloody lovely. And they sounded incredible.

Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys by Yeah, Rad

Tell us about Camry sessions. Does your Camry come equiped with tissues as a standard?

Haha yes, the Evening Records Camry comes equipped with tissues. Sometimes I need them after an artists performance as they often reduce me to tears, tears of joy!
Check out River Dreams Camry Session to see what I’m talking about.

A lot of your acts have been powering through Covid, gigging since June last year. As restrictions start to roll back does the label have any parties in the works?

Yeah I had a conversation with a friend last week who said he was excited to go to a gig again finally, and I was like, “We’ve been playing like two shows a week since October last year, where have you been?!”.

Nobody stopped working throughout the lockdown, if anything, it lit a bit of a fire under everyone to get shit done. I lost my job, so I started Evening Records and recorded a split album with Darby. Lots of other people lost their jobs or cut down hours, so they jumped in the recording studio, or started writing, or finally had the time to finish those mixes or whatever. I feel it was a pretty productive time, for those of us who were time-poor before, to throw everything into our creative sides.

Yes, parties! There’s some awesome shows coming up, and then an Evening Records 1 Year Birthday is in the works. Now we can dance at it, how good!

Check out the Evening Records playlist below:
