WHEN THE COVER IS BETTER THEN THE ORIGINAL

Wow Hayley Mary has knocked her ‘Like a Version’ out of the Park. Covering Lana Del Rays ‘Chemtrails Over the Country Club’, Hayley brought together an Allstar all female band (ft the likes of Annie Hamilton & Lozz Benson) and made it sound like Lana had wrote the song especially for her. Hit the play button below and get ready to rock on out!

New Music Feb

Some new music to get around your earhol’s

Featured up top in the photo is new group F-Pos, made up to Taras (The LuLu Raes) and our dear friend Paddy Cornwall (The Glue between the ‘Sticky Fingers’ and ex Annandale Hotel Wiz kid). They just release their debut, and very aptly titled single, “Classic” which is a killer tune ft Gold Fang & Moody Beach. Will keep this short, as we ain’t music reviewers, but this has some juicy Gorillaz vibes and we’re very excited to hear more in the coming months!!

In line with the above, here are some other short and sweet song/album suggestions!!

Cool Sounds – ‘Bystander’ Album – Indie, Country, Funky? The whole thing is good! Run it up. Really wish Covid didn’t fuck over last year’s Bad Friday and we got to see them there!

Zeahorse – ‘Lets Not (And Say We Did)’ Album – Holy Shit, Zeahorse 3rd Album out of nowhere, like RVD off the top rope with the frogsplash. Slam it down like a Choccy Milk!!

Carla Genve – ‘Dog Eared’ – This Belts! I played it 3 times the first time I heard it. Bit of Magic Dirt in this one (the band, not the dirt over in WA…Although!)

Romero – ‘TroubleMaker’ – Came out last year but love it. Big Sheer Mag and Royal Headache energy. They are 3 from 3 on song’s released so far – Def’s ones to watch this year!

Viagra Boys – ‘Welfare Jazz’ Album – Dirty Country Punk with Sax. Mmmm what a peculiar group of words that i could never have imagined i would enjoy! Fav songs: Toad, Secret Canine Agent & the one with Amy Taylor (she da best!) – Their show at OAF in 2019 was L I T !

Slowthai – ‘Tyrone’ Album – A Stellar (Artois) album from back to front!! 🍻

I could go on with this for days, so i’m going to stop. If you are desperate email me and i’ll do some more.

You can check most of these track on our spoti playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0rTCBABs8clQ8CsLqL3da2?si=-lUVmWbtQtujTp_8s-uhhw

Also a couple of the fellas have a radio show on a great new online radio station called Orbital Radio – They are on Wednesdays from 5pm – 7pm, playing the smooth stuff. Tune in!

Weekender Staff Picks

Spring is in full swing, and we’ve got some gigs to sling! Along with the full gig guide here we have a handful of special shows happening across our venues this weekend.

Namely, Sierra Ferrell finishes off her very successful Aussie tour with a farewell Sydney show at The Great Club on Thursday night. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, you’re in for one hell of a night. If you didn’t, get familiar with all things Sierra here and let’s hope she gets around another Australian tour soon.

Come have breakfast for dinner with us on Friday at the House of Music and Booze as Lola Scott launches her new EP ‘Breakfast for Dinner’. After landing cover star on Spotify’s ‘Indie Arrivals’ playlist, as well as massive support from Triple J and national radio, Lola is taking her infectious indie-pop sound to our stage for one-night only! If you haven’t got tickets yet, snap them up to catch Lola in an intimate venue before she’s selling out theatres.

The nations capitals most beloved punk-rockers, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are keeping your pockets and hearts full with a FREE gig on Friday at one of the inner-wests most revered pubs, The Vic on the Park. Armed with the acclaimed EP Pretty Good for A Girl Band featuring hits ‘AHHHH!’ and ‘Girl Sports’ this is one show not to miss. Supported by Sydney icons Downgirl.

“Although, considering they are gearing up to release their debut EP ‘Pretty Good For A Girl band’, that doesn’t seem like a fair analysis. Because at this point, there’s no telling of the scope that Teen Jesus will attain” – Beat Magazine.

If you’ve recovered from our Thursday and Friday offerings, Heavy Demo Vol. 1 is your Saturday destination. The team behind Heavy Demo are putting on a party at the House of Music and Booze headlined by punk legends Straight Arrows. It’s the first of what will be a growing cult event in Sydney’s buzzing music scene. Grab a ticket here and you’ll be in the running to win a pair of Audio-Technica earbuds, ‘cause why not?

Full line-up:

Straight Arrows

The Melodrones

Bad Jeep Country

Heavy Metal Country

Waywards is throwing it back on Saturday night with Butterfingers taking over the venue for the 15-year anniversary celebration of their hit single ‘FIGJAM’. Tickets are moving so get in quick.

So, what are you waiting for? Hit the gig guide for all tix, info and whatever else you need to get yourself down to one of the hottest shows in town this week.

We’re launching our co-working and kitchen space!

MBC House is Sydney’s newest creative hub located in an old pub in St Peters. It offers up a mix of co-working space, a commercial kitchen, an event space, and more! It’s the latest venture from the festival and booking agency, The Music and Booze Co. The team behind King St Crawl, Beer Footy Food Festival and Bad Friday.

On the space, founder Matt Rule said,” I’ve been based in Sydney’s Inner West for the past 20 yrs, I love the diverse creative culture of the area and how accepting the community is of all walks of life. For that reason, we’ve concentrated a large part of our business activities in this area, and having an opportunity to take over an old local pub to convert into our HQ and collaborative space for all, was just too good an opportunity not to take up”

MBC House offers up Covid-safe co-working space in true entertainment industry style. We have repurposed staging and other festival infrastructure to create a co-working/hot-desking space perfect for Inner-West creatives. It features a breakout/zoom room along with an expansive outdoor area, a pool table, and a dartboard.

The commercial kitchen will be opening for pop up events/delivery and will play host to Sydney’s hottest up’n’comers in the food, natty wine, and craft beer scenes. Stay tuned for some special announcements in the coming weeks!

We are no strangers to packing variety into their various festivals and this new endeavor is sure to not disappoint.

The Buoys Announce EP, Release New Song!

Pic: April Josie

The Buoys are back with a new track and news of a second EP! The Sydney 4-piece toured extensively over the summer playing a bunch of festivals and national tour supports. Somehow in the midst of all this, they found time to record their sophomore EP with Antonia Gauci.

Indie-powerhouse label, Spunk Records caught wind of it and will be putting it out “All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere” both digitally and on vinyl on July 10.

In the meantime you can hear the brand spanking new track, “Linda” here:

Live Music Returns to Sydney!

Pic: April Josie

We are beyond stoked to announce the return of live music to Sydney! Due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, the first gigs will be taking place as soon as next week!

The Vanguard will be the first venue to open it’s doors to live music and all gigs will be strictly complying with the guidelines outlined by the government and will be limited to 50 capacity dinner and show tickets.

MBC and The Vanguard take government Covid-19 guidelines very seriously. We do also want to hear what the performers have to say as your safety is paramount! If you have any suggestions on how you think a show should run drop us a line below.

We’ve compiled a survey and want to hear from you! If you are in a band or performance act let us know what you think here: Performer Survey.
